The Industrial Workers of the World GMB Vancouver is proud to hold a 
double-bill video screening of "Libertarias" and "Salt of the Earth" as
part of the Mayworks festival.  All proceeds go to the Mayworks
festival. Wednesday May 16, first film @ 7 PM, by donation at the
Portland Hotel (412 Carrall St. Vancouver). Presented by the IWW GMB
Vancouver.

"Libertarias"
Spain, 19 July 1936. The revolution has begun in a city near Barcelona. 
Marķa, an innocent young nun, flees her convent when revolutionaries
invade the area and finds refuge in a brothel. Here she meets a group of 
"Libertarias," anarchist militia women who are fighting not only Franco,
but also the conservative attitudes toward women that prevail as well in
the revolutionary ranks. Libertarias is an epic of sorts that mixes
documentary, tragedy, romance, comedy, objectivity and introspection in
order to dramatize not only a war for freedom, but also a more
underground struggle, the war between the sexes.

"Salt of the Earth
Originally blacklisted when it was released in 1954 - is a film about
the zinc mine strike and allegations that Communists controlled the
militant Mine-Mill local. Featuring a prominent role for blacklisted
actor Will Geer (later famous as Grandpa on TV's The Waltons), the story
intensifies when the strikers are forced to stop picketing and their
wives take up the cause.
