We\'d like to have it up and running as soon as possible
resources:
We have a 333Mhz Pentium II computer with 196MB of RAM. We are running Redhat 8.0 with apache, php, and postgresql. We plan on using active for the IMC. We are connected to the net via DSL (128Kb/s upstream, up to 1.55Mb/s downstream). I personally used to be the network/system administrator and webmaster for a small ISP that used only open source software, so I have the skills that go along with that. Most people involved in this project, have been involved in activism for a quite a while, and there are several organizations that have also been around quite a while.
outreach:
Since Arkansas is a very conservative state, when there is any kind of activism going on, you hear about it, and most activists around the state are on the same listservs, go to the same demonstrations, and are a part of larger groups like the Arkansas First Congress, which is a coalition of various progressive groups around the state. All we had to do was spread the word through our listservs and affinity groups, and we saw a huge demand for and Arkansas IMC, and lots of people willing to get involved.
introductory_statement:
We don\'t agree with what we see on TV, hear on the radio, and read in the newspapers and on the web. We believe that the corporate media cannot tell the whole story because of its structure. We believe that one way to spark change is by breaking the silence about events and perspectives that the corporate media ignores. We believe that we must act in our own communities, while staying connected with our sisters and brothers and their struggles around the world. We feel that the Indymedia Network fits our needs.
