introductory_statement:
[Nl] Waarom we een imc willen zijn.

West Vlaanderen (Wvl) is een relatief kleine provincie waar op het eerste zicht niet veel demonstraties en akties plaatsvinden. Toch is er volgens ons een echte nood aan een lokale imc. De media zijn hier, net als elders, in handen van grote bedrijven of de overheid. Plaats voor de strijd van de mensen en voor de mening van die mensen zelf is er nauwelijks.

De traditionele media slagen er ook in deze provincie in om er een zootje van te maken. De dagelijkse corruptie in de stadsbesturen, het sluiten van bedrijven en de bedreiging van het milieu op verschillende plaatsen wordt nooit op een serieuze manier in beeld gebracht. De mensen die eronder lijden of die ermee geconfronteerd worden, kunnen hun eigen stem, mening hierbij niet kwijt.

En er gebeurt genoeg in West Vlaanderen. Iedereen herinnert zich nog Lernout en Hauspie, de bezetting van het Lappersfort, de plannen voor de windmolens aan zee, de manier waarop Menen zijn jeugd behandelt, problemen bij Levi\'s, het krapuul dat Barco bestuurt, ...

Imc-Wvl wil een platorm maken dat mensen en groeperingen toelaat van zelf nieuws en media te maken. We willen dat de mensen in deze streek hun eigen media in handen hebben en kunnen aanwenden in de dagelijkse strijd om de overleving en voor een andere wereld. We willen doorheen de provincie een gedecentraliseerd netwerk opzetten, dat op verscheidene manieren werkt aan de democratisering van media en nieuws; volgens de indymedia principes. 

We willen lokaal focussen met een blik op de wereld, en in samenwerking met de reeds bestaande Belgische imc. We zullen werken volgens de principes die opgesteld zullen worden door het collectief rond imc-wvl 


[En] Why we wanna be an imc.

Western Flanders (Wvl) is a rather small province in Belgium. On a first sight there aren\'t that much demonstrations and actions around here. However we feel there\'s a real need for a local imc. The media is here, like
elsewhere, in the hands of the government and  companies/corporations. There\'s no space for the struggle and the opinions of the people.

The traditional media create a mess of the news they make around here. There\'s daily corruption in the citiecouncils, companies get closed & jobs lost, the environment is in danger in various places and there\'s no serious media attention towards that. The people concerned in, and confronted with in those stories, have no place where they can voice their opnions & news.

And enough things happen overhere in Western Flanders. Everyone remembers the debacle of Lernout & Hauspie, the occupation of the Lappersfort, windmills at the seaside, problem\'s at Levi\'s, the criminals in charge at Barco (companie that works a lot for military), ...

Imc-Wvl wants to create a platform that allows people to make their own news and media. We want that the people in our province are in control of their own media and that they can use it in their daily struggle for survival and
for a better world. We want to create through this province a decentralised network that can work in various ways on the democratisation of media and news, along the indymedia principles.

We want to focus locally with a large view on the world, in cooperation with the allready existing Belgian imc. We will work in accordance with the principles that will be made by the collective around imc-wvl

West Vlaanderen (West Flanders) is a region in the nord-west of Belgium. It is about 3100 km² and has total of 1 125 000 inhabitants spread over 64 communities/cities. The biggest cities are Brugge, Oostende & Kortrijk which have all less then 100 000 inhabitants.
