Sisters and Brothers,

We submitted an application to become part of the Indymedia network in November, and some things have changed since then. Our collective has come to consensus that I will be the contact for our IMC. Also, we are now being hosted by bandwidthcoop at this address: http://arkansasdada.bandwidthcoop.org/ Last, we had a major council this weekend, and are ready to join the network. We came to consensus on all the points of the membership criteria. Below is our mission and editorial policy.

Arkansas Indymedia's Mission Statement

Arkansas Indymedia

Truth surfaces in the face of corporate dominance.

We come from the backwoods and city streets, from comfortable homes and beneath bridges.
We see Arkansas as it is and as it could be. We see our impovershed, rural and urban sisters and brothers living amoungst that small minority--Tyson's, Wal-Mart, etc.--with so much wealth. We see our lives becoming markets for the capitalist monster to devour. We see the "Natural State" becoming a wasteland. Where there once was a community, there is now a corporate business district. Where there once was a forest, there is now a subdivision.

Arkansas Independent Media Center speaks truth to these realities by providing a reclaimed meda space, free from corporate chains. The IMC is designed to empower and give voice to the people of Arkansas, especially the voices and ideas marginalized by mainstream media. We will supply Arkansas with radical, passionate, intelligent, and accurate versions of stories and issues that link our communities to the world.

We will do this in a non-heirarchical way that emphasizes collective decision-making, decentralized power, and a malleable structure. Our IMC will include diverse perspectives and expand awareness. Arkansas Indymedia is an avenue to building a network of communication and free information to help form the base of the movement that will overcome the wreckage left by capitalism.

Arkansas Indymedia's Editorial Policy (We will temporarily use the global site's policy)

Arkansas Indymedia is a democratic newswire. We want to see and hear the real stories, news, and opinions from around the world. While we struggle to maintain the news wire as a completely open fourm we do monitor it and remove posts.
You can see the decisons we have made by viewing the hidden articles page. In the overwhelming number of cases, stories have been removed for the following reasons: being comments, not news, duplicate posts, obviously false or libelous posts, or inappropriate content.

The Arkansas Indymedia collective is very excited about Indymedia, and we are ready as soon as you make a decision.

Solidarity

Aaron Thomason
