hi dave,
So far we know very little about these guys - maybe
they have more contact with grassroots organisations
than we realise, maybe they'd be *willing* to contact
grassroots organisations and get them involved if
someone had the kindness and patience to explain
things to them.
If they're willing to discuss things on a publicly
archived mailing list, i.e. if they don't have the
same security worries as the people in Egypt, then a
mailing list would seem to me the best place where you
could start a dialogue with them. In any case, you
could start off with a kind letter to them cc-ed to
new-imc.
i'm afraid i have to pass the buck on this one.

In fact... the second of these emails comes from
the person who sent in the proposal! So...
Dear vally: Hopefully someone from new-imc will help
explain the process to you, but we're lacking in
personpower on the new-imc working group right at the
moment, so please don't be offended if we're slow to
respond (or even if noone responds) - remember that
everything is done by volunteers.
If you look up
http://newimc.indymedia.org
you'll find more or less what is needed, though
to start a mailing list you would need to send
an email to
listwork at lists.indymedia.org
since the page newlist.indymedia.org is broken at
the moment.
Briefly on the point that dave made: the idea is that
an indymedia collective should be based in all sorts
of grassroots groups really living in the geographical
location of the collective, not just the elite. This
doesn't mean that the elite should be excluded, of
course, and in general my guess is that an indymedia
collective usually includes some component of the more
privileged, who accept more or less just to be
catalysts and to accept that the less privileged have
equal decision-making power and rights to facilitate
and/or moderate discussions...
solidarity

PS: my own feeling is if you have enough people with
good email access (two seems enough to start, IMHO),
then just start a mailing list and then get more
seriously into questions like who to do outreach to,
contacting grassroots groups, what the situation is
like in Ambazonia, etc. etc.
