> Personal Introduction
> Dear all, Below is our 'welcome statement' regardingindymedia-Istanbul:
> Indymedia-Istanbul initiative is composed of people who are in opposition
to
> mainstream media hegemony that is made up of a few media cartels which
> continously manipulate people living in Turkey by giving either
> mistaken/false or incomplete information and data in line with legal
> government policies. The initiative objects to establish its own
> news/information channel(s) in time, not ignoring the other channels and
> reach the broadest range of people possible inside (and outside) Turkey.
In
> spite of the fact that internet still is an 'elite' medium and thus has
not
> a wide spectrum, the initiative aims to reach as many and much as it can
via
> indymedia. The site that will be kept by the initiative shall tell about
> 'what, why, how, where, when and who' of that is going on in Turkey and
try
> to diminish the destroying effects of mainstream media manipulation
> meanwhile. Turkish will be the main language of the site. However and
> moreover, what is going on all over our old planet
> shall be tried to be translated to English (& probably to Kurdish) and
given
> in the site for the same reasons cited above (this also will depend on our
> energy and time potentials). The English content of the site shall
hopefully
> be useful for the peoples of the World, which might enable them not to get
> affected / infected and manipulated by international 'news' and/or
> 'information' cartels and thus reach more direct and real source of
> information&data regarding Turkey. Indymedia-Istanbul shall be the voice
and
> discussion ground for those that don't and/or cannot find suitable seat to
> explain themselves through mainstream hegemonic media channels. We also
want
> to widen indymedia to other parts of Turkey in the middle and long term
> which might in time be converted into indymedia-Turkey.
