Friends at New- imc, imc- Communication, and other imc-
groups,

I guess you could have predicted I would say this, but
allow me your patience so that we can re-state the
obvious: it's a lot easier to do *prevention* that to
put out full- blown fires.

The current developments with IMC France (we're facing
the possibility of shutting it down), illustrate how
important it is for the New- imc group and for the imc-
Communication group (which is our evolving imc body
aimed at cultivating collectivity and eventually
network -wide consensus), to be aware, and to be in
harmony with the *spirit* of the imc guidelines and our
principles of unity.

We are too often drunk on the delusion that "the more
the merrier", but we are wrong. Spreading more and more
imc websites indiscriminately is harmful to the global
Liberation Movement which we have committed ourselves
to serve, even as we are becoming its unofficial organ
of expression. It is also harmful to the political and
social principles which we (supposedly) share.

The New- imc work-group and the imc- Communication
groups need to become even more aware of the
differences between
a. building a network of *organizations*, which we
should encourage, and,
b. building a network of *websites*, which we should
discourage.

There is too much emphasis on technology among us, and
too little on politics, organization, principles. The
imc is a network of politically motivated media
activists, not a network of internet missionaries aimed
at "spreading the internet" to the globe. And, believe
it or not, it is not even aimed at "spreading the open
publishing software" to the globe. We are not here to
serve the technology. Imc is aimed at creating networks
of *organizations* capable of using the evolving media
technology to serve our communities' needs through the
local/ regional branches of the Liberation Movement.

That is the spirit through which we should be building
and cultivating our contacts with new and old imc
colleagues. Instead, the prevalent atttitude among us
is on how to "get the website going" as quickly as
possible.

Our current policy will keep on leading us to shame
and, as we expand, to becoming politically irrelevant.
We need to articulate and to actualise a different
course.

Thanks for your patience,
Petros
