Hello, 

The statement below by Cyprus Indymedia volunteers is a
result of various sensitive and complicated
communication and consensus procedures. For those
unfamiliar with our regional realities, the ability of
our evolving local imc volunteers to co-operate
directly, is blocked by mine- fields and military
force, artificially cultivated racism and hatred
between our peoples, entirely different languages, and
the difficulties created by the conditions needed for
the safety of those who are in the clandestine
resistance.

Istanbul- imc

We salute and embrace the formation of the Istanbul-
imc group, and we extend our best wishes for the group
to become fruitful and successful.

Our pleasure is two- fold:
As members of both the hellene- cypriot and the
turkish- cypriot communities of  Cyprus, we experience
our daily lives as almost totally determined by and
dependent on political developments in Turkey. We
believe that this new formation of the Istanbul- imc to
create free access to media, will enable the expression
of otherwise silenced voices of progressive,
radical, and revolutionary communities and
organizations of Turkey, which are our best allies,
friends, and neighbors.

Also, as members of the Eastern Mediterranean imc
community, we recognise that the development of free, 
uncensored media operated by independent activists in 
our  countries are significant contributions to the
possibility for Peace and Justice in our region of the
world.
