SUMMARY:
IMC Brisbane has responded to new-imc requests and just three points
(j, k, m of the membership criteria - political parties,
non-commercial status, and cities.inc) remain to be answered/done. If we
can get some answers on these, i think they'll be ready for proposal
to the network. Membership criteria & mission statements follow.

Hi Briz folx, new-imc people,

The Briz folx asked about going through the new-imc process here:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2002-June/003613.html

and i replied here (also on new-imc):
http://lists.cat.org.au/pipermail/imc-brisbane/2002-June/000151.html

They've accepted most of my suggestions, apart from linking to the
archives of their organising mailing lists on the about.php3
page. Well, given that they have regular face-to-face meetings and
that they do tell people how to get started by email to the main list,
maybe this will encourage people to get involved in the face-to-face
meetings rather than purely electronically, which is not a bad thing.
In any case, this is clearly a choice which no one can complain about
(IMHO).

The imc-brisbane mailing list archive

http://lists.cat.org.au/pipermail/imc-brisbane/2002-June/

is now publicly accessible :), which IMHO is very important.

OK, i can only see three things missing from the membership criteria,
(j) independence from political parties etc
(k) refusal to engage in commercial for-profit activities.
and one thing not quite standard
(m) the current file
http://www.indymedia.org/cities.inc
is not the one used on the site

Although i'm sure the brizzie crowd agree with j. & k., i couldn't find
them stated anywhere on:

http://www.brisbane.indymedia.org/about.php3
http://brisbane.indymedia.org.au/edpolicy.php3

Here is the precise wording on the membership criteria document:

> j. (NOT FINALIZED): Have no official affiliation with any political party,
> state or candidate for office (comments: but individual producers have
> freedom to do whatever they like and local IMCs can "feature" stories about
> various political parties and initiatives),
>
>
> k. IMCs shall in no way engage in commercial for-profit enterprises. [We
> could add: The IMCN is committed to the decommercialization of information
> and will disassociate from any local IMC that decides to become a for profit
> media corporation.]

Briz folx, could we have a clear statement from you (by email to
new-imc, or on your about.php3 page or somewhere else obvious on the
site would be even better) what your attitudes to j. and k. are?

It would also be nice to have m. the current cities.inc file used
on your site.

Once we have these, i think we'll be ready to go through the standard
3-day and 7-day calls for consensus on new-imc and imc-process!
Noone else than me seems to have commented on IMC Brisbane, so i don't
expect any problems...

In any case, i'm sending the membership criteria and mission statements
(to both lists) following this message.
