To: New IMC Material Reviewers,

We who are striving to build an IMC in Florida, respectfully submit the
following items as required for new IMCs:
Mission Statement
Statement on Principals of Unity
Editorial Policy Statement
Please inform us of any additional material we should provide you to support
our effort to be recognized as an IMC.

Additionally, we now have a web presence (www.datacache.com/imc-cfl.htm) that
we are using while an effort is underway to set up a web presence using the
Active package. We are still in the stage of actively recruiting additional
people but now meet twice each month and have had one IRC meeting for
consideration of urgent issues.

We believe we have a critical mass of motivated people with the needed talent
mix to establish and sustain an IMC for the Central Florida region.

The group has accepted by consensus all of the following material for
submittal.

Mission Statement of IMC-CFL:
The <Independent Media Center of Central Florida><link to home> offers <news
and analysis><link to our explanation of news and analysis> unhampered by
political or corporate interests. We accept <no advertising or sponsorships><
link to statistics on media and advertising>, nor do we represent a <single
point of view><link to bios of reporters?>. Our goal is to get as much
information out as possible, including news from foreign sources and groups
whose views are not often represented in corporate media, such as women,
minorities and progressive activists.
We also offer local news reporting on events ignored by the local and
national media
as well as a fresh perspective on the news that they do report. We hope this
website -- through allowing the <open publishing><link to explanation of open
publishing> of news and perspectives -- will break down the barrier that
creates an elite of information gatherers and a majority of passive
information consumers.

We will not remove anything posted to our <Newswire><link to explantion of
newswire> and <Opinionwire><link to explanation of Opinionwire> section as
long as it is consistent with our <Editorial Guidelines><link to Editorial
Guidelines>. We will endeavor to correct any substantive factual errors in
posts in our <Features Section><link to description of the Features Section,
what it is how to get posted to it, etc>.

We welcome the participation of anyone in our community in the gathering of
news and the operation of this website. In keeping with the democratic values
of independent media, all decisions about this website are made collectively
through <consensus><link to consensus explanation> at regular <meetings><link
to meeting information>.

It is our belief that the <Independent Media Center><link to
www.indymedia.org> exemplifies the freedom of the press promised by the U.S.
Constitution and <international standards for human rights><link to
explanation of free speech/Human Rights provisions>. We feel that we serve a
vital purpose by offering an open forum for news and perspectives that is not
biased by <corporate interests><link to explanation of "corporate interests">
and the State. This we feel can help <create grassroots democracy and
positive social change><link to indymedia's principles of unity or history>.

Principals of Unity:

We have also consented to send agreement to Principles of Unity 1-2, 4-5, and
8-10 without change, however we felt that #3 was problematic due to its use
of the term "activists" and wish to discuss it in the next physical meeting
before deciding our stance. Additionally, we wish to urge that #7 be reworded
in the following manner:

"#7: We recognize that consensus on modified proposals is preferable to a
block in the consensus process and that contribution to the group in various
forms, including but not limited to attending meetings, writing articles, and
offering tech support is a prerequisite for issuing such a block. Individual
IMC's will determine the process by which it is ensured that this
prerequisite is fulfilled."

We also consented to the editorial proposal as follows:
Editorial Policy:

The Independent Media Center of Central Florida's editorial guidelines are as
follows. In an attempt to provide the most effective, efficient access to
news and views in a democratic manner, the IMC CFL provides both a NewsWire
and an OpinionWire.
The Newswire will provide informative content whose focus is to inform the
public about recent events and occurrences, especially those not covered by
the corporate news media.
The Opinionwire will allow for open publishing as well as enabling visitors
to the site to view the content they are most interested in. Posts to the
Opinionwire may be on any subject deemed appropriate by the <Editorial Team><
link to description of guidelines for joining the Editorial Team>. However,
posts to the Newswire consisting of, non-news photos, song lyrics, editorial
opinions, poetry, and other non-newsbased content will be moved to the
Opinionwire. The IMC-CFL urges all posters to please post responsibly to the
Wire that is most appropriate. Articles on the Wires will be moved to the
feature column under the discretion of the editorial team, and if you wish to
be considered for movement, please request in the appropriate box.
Each article, as published, will appear first on an "unfiltered page" until
it is moved to an appropriate wire by the editorial team, however all posts
to the unfiltered page will be placed on the Opinionwire if deemed neither
news nor in opposition to the IMC Policy of non-discrimination.
Finally, the IMC-CFL hopes that all posters will exercise tolerance and
appreciation for all viewpoints, races, genders, sexual preference, and any
other form of physical, mental, social, or economic classification. The
IMC-CFL cannot be held responsible for distasteful, inappropriate, or even
hurtful posts made, as we embrace open publishing. However, we urge the
community to react to posts that they feel are inappropriate and utilize the
comment functions in order to bring out intolerance and show it for that very
thing.
