[New-imc] indy news: over 100 imcs, multi-lingual global pages?, very diverse global features, etc.

Hi all,

Here are four great bits of internal indy news:

         - over 100 imcs
         - global pages in multiple languages sometime?
         - global center column is very diverse today
         - new cycle faster

We don't often take time to recognize together how amazing the imc network 
has become.

See more below on the above points.

Indy News:

- over 100 imcs

The Indy network is now of over 100 local imcs as of September/October some 
time, counting both active and approved.

This news perhaps deserves a feature story, perhaps as part of a 3 year old 
imc feature in a week or two.

Is anyone on the new imc list interested in working on that?


- global page in multiple languages sometime?

There was mention on the www-features list this month of the possibility of 
the global pages going to multiple languages.

If you are interested in putting energy into this (global pages in Spanish, 
French, etc), please speak up.


- global center column is very diverse today

The current feature stories (11/14/02, 10 pm Pacific ST) in the global 
center column are very diverse in imc/country of origin.

Rather by chance, the current features (for next few hours anyway) are:

    * from every continent, except N. America.
    * from 8 countries where the 8 imcs have different main languages
         (if S.Africa has African languages and Dutch more than English)
    * all are outside of North America

The three demographic aspects of the above features indicating diversity -- 
every continent, many originating languages, lots of non N. American 
coverage -- may be recurring more often in our increasingly diverse imc 
network.

More diversity of topics would be nice too. Seems like antiwar and housing 
have it for the day above :)


- new cycle faster

The news cycle in the center column is speeding up for a few days, perhaps 
longer.

There are more and more indy local features from all over.


Perhaps an indy news note could come out every few months or so to 
highlight interesting aspects and developments in imc space...
