Hello to the new imc working group. I am writing to you from whitehorse in the yukon territory with the hopes of expanding the imc network all the way up here. We are definately in need of some accountable & alternative news sources as there's a lot of undocumaented/poorly documented stuff going down, stories about oil and gas being pumped by bp from undisturbed tundra, of the dealings within new military bases in Alaska, of the Walmart launch at this city, of the voting in of the most economic driven political party in the territorial election two weeks ago, etc etc etc. A friend and i have held one puplic meeting so far, at which there were two dozen interested folk. We are currently working on diversity and spreading the word. There is a lot of interest and solid support from an indapentant newspaper, a small handfull of techies (whom i am not one of.) a bigger group of artistically inclined people, both writers and visual artists/photographers, the support of the gwitchi'in first nation and of several environmental organizations to name a few.  Though we are by no means near finished with outreach, we're feeling ready to get to work on pulling a new local site into shape, at first just for the city of whitehorse but, in fear of being whitehorse centric as capital city projects so often are, hopefully we will broaden to include the rest of the territory, the western NWT and possibly even alaska in a western arctic indymedia site.
