Beirut- imc/ Excellent news!

Hadeel, blue.pi, sonya, semk, all, for writing.

The updates you wrote are actually wonderful news, and
it sounds from your descriptions that the Beirut- imc
group is more than ready to be approved as member of
the imc network. And thank you for clearing up any
wrong impressions.

(About the difficulties with language/website
development, I can really sympathize - we have been
working for more than a year to develop a trilingual
site for the Cyprus imc group (turkish, hellenic/greek,
english), so with all the technical problems, and with
all the military restrictions placed between us
preventing our separated communities to meet, things
have been very dissappointing at times. But we have a
real tangible group, like yours, and regular meetings
(great food!), we participate in radical efforts on our
communities, we have some temporary publishing tools at
http://CyprusIndymedia.mainpage.net , and we are still
working with Spud of Dadaimc and with Scott of the
Bandwith Coop to develop a better site. A mixture of
depressing and exciting experiences.)

Blue pi, you are right to be angry, but please
udnerstand what I wrote (crucaders, etc) is not at all
about you. We have a misunderstanding, and I hope you
will forgive me for whatever anger it caused you - my
comments apply to several tendencies within global
(especially US- based) Indymedia who either don’t
undertand or don’t want to understand the difference
between philanthropy and politics, between liberation
and missionary work. Again: nothing to do with you, in
fact I see that you are also aware and sensitive to
this problem as well, and I see an ally here. Thanks
for speaking up with your complaint.

So, from everything you all wrote,  the Beirut- imc
group seems to fullfil all the criteria for memberhsiop
to the imc network, and I would really like to
encourage you all to pursue that direction, now that
the pulse is there and alive. There is no need to wait
for the website to become ready. All you have to do is
write it all up (blue pi seems to indicate that the
writing is mostly done, that’s great!), and just send
it in to the new-imc working group. 

Also, please consider this an open invitation again, to
help us with your participation to expand the informal
regional Eastern Meditarrenean imc group,

with contacts, dialogue, explorations, and exchanges
related to our corner of the globe.
