OK, I think I know what the problem is here.

Often people don't realise that their email to IMC lists is publically
archived, and they request that mail is removed from the web archive.

When mail is removed and the archive rebuilt all the URIs change :-(

I think this is a serious bug in Mailman, but a workaround would be for
the mbox archive files from which the web archive is built to be edited
in a MUA like mutt which would allow only the headers and bits of the
content of messages that needed to be removed to be edited out rather
than the whole message being removed. 

Another workaround for the http://newimc.indymedia.org/ page would be
for the messages to be saved elsewhere (on a wiki?) rather than having
links to non-persistent URIs.

One further Mailman point -- not might _not_ be a good time for an
upgrade since the latest version has a bug that results in corrupt mbox
files being saved on the server.
