Hi,
for once I have sort of a similar concern as Petros (even though I don't
share his or others point of view that people of American nationality should
not be allowed to help. boud has rightly pointed out that there were e.g.
people of all kinds of nationalities as human shields in Bagdad. Plus, I
just can't see why it is so important for indymedia where a person's
*father* is from. When we are talking about nationality, foreigners etc. we
should always keep in mind what kind of discourse we are supporting with it
- in this region (you get the nationality of your father, not your mother's,
not your birthplace's, not the place where you grew up!) and any where in
this world).
But what I do agree with is that people from the region should be involved.
IMC Beirut is an approved Arabic indymedia and several people from here plan
to go to Iraq in the near future to build up contacts with the evolving
leftist parties and groups there (no worry Petros, they are Lebanese or
Iraqi). So, the first thing I think you could have done is inform IMC Beirut
if you want someone to meet the folks in Iraq. The same was true for IMC
Cairo, someone from our group will be going there soon and I will give her
the contacts, but it would maybe save you a lot of discussions if you would
think of this option in the first place.
About IMC Bagdad: I only had this email by Ramzi (btw, that's an Arabic and
not an American name) forwarded to me (it arrived on some Lebanese
mailinglist), are there more contacts? If yes, can you email them to me, so
I can give it to the people who will be going to Iraq?
solidarity,
blue
