Hi,
I have to admit that I do not agree with policies that allow just anyone to
post writings. The open-publishing wire sounds great, theoretically. Just
the other night I was speaking with a good friend of mine from Norway. He
has told me that because of the OP, people in Norway do not really trust
Indymedia, since they do not know whether the content is truthful or not.
>From our experience so far, I am also afraid that the OP would give space to
the right-wing. And r-w extremists are criminals according to the law. We do
not need any more hatred because we've got plenty of it. A reminder: freedom
goes to the extent to which the Other is not hurt. I am all for freedom, but
not as long as races, minorities are hurt. And I would think twice before I
posted any writing on a website which hosts material produced by racists ,
and more, with my consent - as long as I choose to be part of it.
It would be very useful to learn from Indymedia projects worldwide, just to
know if there have been serious problems concerning the OP and if they see
any ways out. Again, as Ruxi wrote: "We're just trying to prevent -- have a
clear strategy for dealing with -- some guaranteed ugliness and
counter-productivity and disfunction".
Subordonation sounds creepy, it's true. But our actions will eventually go
way beyond the very website, we should reflect a little bit upon this. And
why not, take an oath before posting, such as "I'll do no harm". That was
just a suggestion.
In peace and solidarity, C
