Dear Friends,
Swahealing is a combination of Swahili and Healing. Swahili, as one
of teh most widely spoken African languages reminds Africans of their
roots, wherever they are. Swahili is therefore symbolic of Africa. We
have combined this with healing because we realise that you must be
in touch with your roots to be whole. In other words, we will bring
on board uniquely African contributions. Am I making any sense? Well,
hope so and kudos to you all for this wonderful network!
John Bwakali

I've been talking with John too about their community video project
in Kenya and Tanzania as well as their indy project. I really think
it will be nice that they get to deal with different people from the
network and get a feel of things here. So it is fine with me that
You(Blicero) and Francois deal with that.

Just one question for John. Is "Swahealing" too a swahili word or
the name of a place in Nairobi?
Solidarity,
Kwaheri-swahili for bye:-))))

>> We are from different parts of Kenya. On several occasions, we
conducted brainstorming sessions with media practitioners and ‘media
lovers.’ These were spontaneous sessions that discussed the African
socieyt in general and \'media at the grassroots level\' in
particular. From these discussions, people and issues emerged. It is
this issues that these people will focus on.

Virtually all the forty-two communities of Kenya have aspects of
their respective cultures that clearly portray this emphasis.
However, this unity is often compromised through power struggles that
stem from divisive tendencies like hierarchical structures. The
principles of Indymedia outline the kernel of action oriented unity
that can propel media into a deeper level of truth as it is and not
truth as we want it to be. These, are the principles that have drawn
us into Indymedia.
