hi everyone,
The Cancun WTO will be held from 10-14 September, so IMHO we have
enough time to go through the normal time delays (3 days on new-imc, 7
days on imc-process) with a more formal proposal. Without a formal
proposal, the chances of misunderstandings are too great on such a
sensitive subject...

IMHO we have time to go through imc-process as well - my concept of
new-imc is that we should to do everything possible to restrict our
power to communication and recommendations, not final decisions. Since
the IMC Italy proposal went through, i think it should go OK through
imc-process - anyone who feels that this would be a disaster for the
network has about 10 days to get his/her local IMC to discuss this
and make a collective block from that local IMC, not just an individual.

PROPOSAL Cancun domain - deadline SUN 10 Sept 2003
The Cancun support group including IMC Chiapas wish to have a temporary
use of the cancun domain name for the WTO meeting 10-14 Sept 2003.
They have an indymedia-software site
http://cancun.mediosindependientes.org/
but there is not yet any local, self-organised, autonomous indymedia
group there. It is proposed that:
(1) The domain name cancun.indymedia.org be given for use by the
support group
(2) The domain name will be deallocated on 14 October 2003, and will
not be used again for the site until a real, local group has gone
through the full new-imc process.
(3) cancun will *not* be added to the cities list, it will only be
given the temporary domain name.
(4) The people organising the http://cancun.mediosindependientes.org/
site will place a prominent (obvious) notice on the web site that:
(4a) there is not yet any local indymedia group in Cancun
(4b) that locals are encouraged to organised if they wish, with
a link to http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/NewImcHowTo or an [es]
version of the page
(4c) that the "cancun.indymedia.org" domain name will become invalid
from 14 October 2003, only the alternative names will function

type indy
http://cancun.mediosindependientes.org/

i don't understand the subtleties of DNS, but my guess is that the only
easy technical solution is... to keep the domain name alive...
IMHO, a human solution is easier - see the proposal above.
