[New-imc] Questions about Open Publishing

for the sake of imc romania and otehr i will try to summarize the options

the newswire has always been what made imc different from a very good marketed
web magazine (as also changsign said already in this thread)

some imcs , consequently to ACTUAL EXPERIENCE of spam of continued hate-postings
attack, have looked for solution to make the newswire a place for democratic
media production and not just another media window for hate and so on

This solution tended not to focus on the good or bad quality of postings, but
more on their being within a set policy, and their coherence with the locl
activity of the imc.

In this way a first option focuses on the need to highlight more local news or
more important stuff, usually solved with a post publication highlight of some
articles, whether done through ratings (as french imc or madrid do) or to
editorial collective constant monitoring (as sf indy and other sf-active imc
sites)

A second option had to deal with overwhelming number of hate posting:
in this case germany is a very unique case of post publication selection
everybody can publish, and the first thin you encounter on the page is a link to
all the material published, while on the home page newswire you find only the
posting that resides within the policy, checked by a very intensive and rigidly
shift based group of people who for a week or so check the newswire constantly
imc germany decided to dedicate a lot of energy to this check and to the
building of a newswire-monitoring group with very clear policy, compensating in
this way the fact that news on the home page a selected group
they did this after very specific problems in terms of legal issue they met, not
preventively thinking of the newswire more as a limit than as a virtue

concluding:
to me if romania imc starts thinking of the newswire as a limit and not a an
enrichment, trying to hide it before even experimenting with it, and not explaining clearly the
profound reason for which we should accept another "one click away" newswire, i
don't think it starts with the idea of being an imc, but with the idea of doing
another movement web magazine with the fancy brand of imc

choose strict policy if you don't want hate posting (italy imc have quite a
great deal of material that can be hidden, and we have to face 3000 comment a
day and 300 article a day, but still we do not feel the newswire is a limit),
choose a software giving you the possibility to highlight important stuff (even
if at the beginning i don't think you will have such an overcrowded newswire
:)))
