[New-imc] Oceania Indymedia

hi all,
i'm just wondering if we're just playing with words in making a
distinction between "IMC US" and "oceania.indymedia" ...

US asks to go through the new-imc process and says it's an IMC;
Oceania says it's a regional syndication site and just wants some sort
of network approval with a few specific requests, including domain name,
without claiming to be "an IMC".

Are they both bottom-up syndication sites of existing IMCs in some region?

For Oceania, IMHO yes, and it certainly has been functioning for a
long time, and looks like it's functioning fairly smoothly.

US seems like it's bottom-up, and being a syndication site seems to be
its main aim, but it has only been functioning as a group for some
months.

Maybe the biggest difference is the danger of nationalism in the case of
US - but the locals have already discussed this and seem to have come to
a consensus decision.

In any case, i agree with blicero that the Oceania case should be decided
on by imc-process by whatever is imc-process' decision-making procedure.

As for US, i guess since they *asked* to go through new-imc, they should
consider the concerns we (new-imc) have raised...
