Hi there Kammi, Karen, Billy and all of IMC-Alaska,

Yay! An IMC in Alaska!!

This is Jay from the Philadelphia IMC, and also from the new-imc working
group. I'm really excited to hear a new-imc is forming in Alaska. I'm
usually the one on the new-imc working group who responds to new-imc forms
that come from U.S.-based IMCs. So, hi. :)

From Kammi's message and from the form you submitted you sound like you're
on the right track. I assume you've looked at
"http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImcHowTo" and are following along
closely. You've sent in the form and I'm sure you're doing a lot of
organizing.

As that document says, the real thing to do is organize organize
organize. So, what I say is to keep on organizing -- having meetings,
doing outreach, making media, etc. Communicate in person and via e-mail (do
you have an e-mail list yet? If not, contact listwork at indymedia.org), pass
around the principles of unity and other things, and when you feel as if
you're ready to respond to the membership criteria drop the new-imc working
group a line again and we'll make sure we get someone to work with you to
help you through the rest of the process.

Some questions that aren't in the "GlobalNewIMCHowTo" document you want to
ask as you're going along:
-- what are your thoughts about calling yourself "IMC Alaska" vs.
IMC-Anchorage, IMC-Juneau, etc.
-- what kind of outreach are you doing to people across
race/class/economic/geographic lines
-- what are you doing to reach out to people in rural areas, especially
those without computers
-- have you had any dicussions about conflict resolution and gender
equality and how to make those discussions an ongoing part of your organizing?

There's a lot more to think about it, of course, but these are starting
questions. Like I said, you certainliy sound like you're on the right
track. Keep on doing what you're doing and just do more of it!

Keep in touch and feel free to ask any questions as you go along,

Jay
