Hi jeff,

as a member of the Philly IMC, I would like to mention that we are
still running stories about open cases arising from Timoney's arrests
in 2000 (including the trials of 3 charge dwith assaulting Timoney
himself). With his rampage in Miami, you will still have plenty of
FTAA stories to run for the next few years.

jim> Finally after a year and many false starts we have formed a group of
jim> dedicated individuals, and by consensus we submit our mission statement and
jim> principles of unity.

jim> We have a temp web page, a list serve and the help and support of many imc’s
jim> that were in Miami for coverage of the ftaa. We would like to thank all
jim> those who helped make this happen. Special thanks to Portland, Michigan
jim> Tennessee Tallahassee Seattle and many Imcstas’ who labored to give us much
jim> needed direction.

jim> Also thank you to the ftaaimc for donating all the computers and equipment.

jim> Miami IMC Mission Statement

jim> We formed the Miami IMC In recognition of the need for open and independent
jim> media sources in South Florida. Already in the early stages of its
jim> formation prior to November 2003, the FTAA demonstrations galvanized the
jim> Miami IMC. We are committed to the indymedia model of non-heirarchical,
jim> consensus decision-making that includes ethnically, racially, and socially
jim> diverse perspectives from the hearts and minds of those who live and work in
jim> South Florida communities, as an alternative to corporate-owned media or
jim> government. Miami IMC is intended to empower and give voice to
jim> under-reported persons and viewpoints, as well as to encourage local
jim> commentary on national and international issues from the unique perspective
jim> of South Floridia.

jim> PRINCIPLES OF UNITY

jim> 1. The Independent Media Center Network (IMCN) is based upon principles of
jim> equality, decentralization and local autonomy. The IMCN is not derived from
jim> a centralized bureaucratic process, but from the self-organization of
jim> autonomous collectives that recognize the importance in developing a union
jim> of networks.
jim> 2. All IMC's consider open exchange of and open access to information a
jim> prerequisite to the building of a more free and just society.
jim> [3. All IMC's respect the right of activists who choose not to be
jim> photographed or filmed.]
jim> 4. All IMC's, based upon the trust of their contributors and readers, shall
jim> utilize open web based publishing, allowing individuals, groups and
jim> organizations to express their views, anonymously if desired. **see
jim> appendix: Open Publishing document --> still in proposal phase, at this
jim> address:

jim> 5. The IMC Network and all local IMC collectives shall be not-for-profit.
jim> 6. All IMC's recognize the importance of process to social change and are
jim> committed to the development of non-hierarchical and anti-authoritarian
jim> relationships, from interpersonal relationships to group dynamics.
jim> Therefore, shall organize themselves collectively and be committed to the
jim> principle of consensus decision making and the development of a direct,
jim> participatory democratic process] that is transparent to its membership.
jim> 7. [All IMC's recognize that a prerequisite for participation in the
jim> decision making process of each local group is the contribution of an
jim> individual's labor to the group.]
jim> 8. All IMC's are committed to caring for one another and our respective
jim> communities both collectively and as individuals and will promote the
jim> sharing of resources including knowledge, skills and equipment.
jim> 9. All IMC's shall be committed to the use of free source code, whenever
jim> possible, in order to develop the digital infrastructure, and to increase
jim> the independence of the network by not relying on proprietary software.
jim> 10. All IMC's shall be committed to the principle of human equality, and
jim> shall not discriminate, including discrimination based upon race, gender,
jim> age, class or sexual orientation. Recognizing the vast cultural traditions
jim> within the network, we are committed to building [diversity] within our
jim> localities.
