resources:
The group in Cluj is planning to start a media production lab in the building of the Peace Institute. We have promises for PC donations, and a few grant applications in the works so we can have enough equipment for the media lab, & increase bandwidth for several servers for our own sites and for webhosting others. But for now our capacities are limited so wed like to request server space from indymedia.org but I can also put the site on either a Hungarian or Dutch server if necessary. We have lots of organizing skills and people willing to participate in various of the Indymedia lists (our own interests are in Imc-print at indymedia.org, Imc-audio at indymedia.org, Imc-video at indymedia.org, in addition to Imc-communication at indymedia.org, and Imc-proposals at indymedia.org). I have worked as an writer/editor on several websites, magazines, newspaper and book projects.
outreach:
There are many yous in the group who have worked on different things. Societatea Alternativa, the anarchist association in Bucharest, had a mailinglist and newsletter (with 300 subscribers) and connected anarchist initiatives in Bucharest, Craiova, and Timisoara. The Underground festival in Timisoara has brought together music groups from different parts of the country during almost 10 years of festivals. The Peace institute in Cluj organized a march on foot from Cluj to Bucharest (about 500k) to meet different groups who are working for social transformation in Romania; they also organize several international workshops every year. As far as me personally, I helped start a collaboration between students (journalism, philosophy), artists, musicians, and political activists in Cluj centered around independent media production. I am also part of some international networks: a.network (a network of media centers in south east Europe which organize yearly tech culture festival!
s like ASU2 & Cyberutopias in Croatia), and Next 5 Minutes (a network of groups working in grassroots and tactical media production around the world).
introductory_statement:
We share many of the same beliefs about the importance of independent media, alternative news channels, and decentralized organization as the Indymedia network. Unfortuantely the independent scene in Romania tends to be pretty closed and hermetic, so we thought it would be good if more people with the same opinions & values in Romania were part of a larger international network and be able to exchange information and skills. We hope it would also benefit the international Indymedia community to have access to news about campaigns, activities and events in Romania translated in English. (The site will be bilingual)
