Hello,
I'm glad to see the completion of the imc- beirut
application, and I would like to add a few comments.
I've been following the development of the group from
the beginnning, in whatever way I could, both as a
member of the eastern mediterranean imc "assemblage",
and as a member of the new- imc working group with a
special interest in indymedia in our region of the
world.
I've had personal meetings wiht members and supporters
of the Beirut group, and email communications with
some. I feel that the group has been ready to be
embraced into the Indymedia network for many months now
and was artificially held back due to mistakes we (the
new- imc working group) committed in some of our mixed
messages to the group. (Anyone who wants to discuss
this, please contact me privately, at first, and we can
see, if it merits a public exchange, we can open it
up.)
The imc -beirut group is *more* than ready, both
politically and organizationally to a be a member of
Indymedia. I wish that more of the current member
groups of imc were as active and coherent as
imc-beirut.
As soon as we have a response on the questions/
clarifications posed by Boud on the editorial policy, I
would like to propose that we do our "official" new-imc
internal approval announcement for the imc-beirut
group, as we do for all new imc groups which complete
our application procedures, and pass it on "upstairs"
to imc-communication and to the other groups of imc
colleagues.
In particular, I'd like to remind our Beirut friends
that the questions which were posed by Boud are
articulated in the spirit of respect for local autonomy
- whatever the group's decision is, we will respect it.
Anyone have any more thoughts on this?
Petros
