Dear bill, IMC Binghamton people,
bill sent me an offlist email, so i won't quote his words,
but since the issues are public issues, i will respond here
on imc-binghamton and new-imc.
bill discussed mailing list issues:
(1) his personal concern regarding subscribers' names being public
(2) his personal concern regarding the archive being public
(3) he personally created a new mailing list:
(list "imc" at majordomo at BinghamtonPublicAccess.org)
i've prepared a TWiki page to try to clarify arguments for and against
various list options. Anyone, please feel free to improve/modify/etc
what i've put there.

bill, after you have read this page, the following should make more
sense:
(1) It is quite OK to make the subscriber list only readable by subscribers.
(2) AFAIK, there are no IMCs in N.America or Europe with secret list
archive contents (except IMC Istanbul).
(3) It's quite OK to have a mailing list independent from sarai,
but you should email listwork to have them add a link to it anyway.
bill, IMHO it would be much harder for local US people to see how
the IMC Binghamton collective is organising if the list has secret
archives. There's also the global indymedia readership. For obvious
reasons, people around the world are very much angry with "the USA",
and people thinking of starting an Indymedia group in West Asia,
South Asia, ... might be very suspicious about Indymedia if they
could not read the archives and see things for themselves...
