hi everyone,
####
SUMMARY
We now have (at least) seven (7) pending applications
for new IMCs in the USA, without any new-imc volunteers to
help them.
The new-imc working group urgently needs US (or at least
N.America) based volunteers to help guide new imc applicants
in the US.
Please redistribute this call to US Indymedia collectives.
####
We now have (at least) seven (7) applications for new IMCs in the US
from groups who are eager and enthusiastic and have already created
websites and/or mailing lists and contacted the new-imc working group
since December:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2003-February/003442.html
Several of their requests have simply gone unanswered.
i've just helped IMC Arkansas through the process, despite the fact
that i'm badly placed to judge local conditions and will be less
affected by the recognition of an IMC Arkansas than Indymedia groups
and people in the US (i'm an IMC Poland volunteer). Apart from michael
albert's recommended "decide according to the extent to which
you would be affected by a decision" principle, there's also the
practical fact that approving new IMCs will not be scalable if we
do not find new volunteers.
jay has turned up and is likely to help, but he's only one person
and it's unhealthy to rely on just one person.
The new-imc process has been described here:
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImcHowHelpUs
and there are several other new new-imc meta-documents at:
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImc
NIMC is growing exponentially (i.e. doubling each year, rather than
adding the same number each year) and the number of new US
applications per month is not going to decrease. If noone talks
them through the process, they're either going to be frustrated
and give up or else they'll reinvent the wheel and develop some
other de facto new-imc process. Or the new-imc working group might
feel pressured to internally approve groups which will turn into
sects or have other pathological problems which distract everyone
from more constructive stuff.
