Evan, I belive you mis-understood the proposal.  The proposal does not
include any website whatsoever at ny.indymedia.org, only that a parent
DNS zone be created for cities within our state to be hosted under.
This is a response primarily to the fact so many IMCs are springing up
all over our state, many of them in small cities (ie, Ithaca), and this
trend seems to be accelerating over time.  

The second part of the proposal was that an existing IMC in NY could get
a subdomain of ny.indymedia.org for a city which does not yet have an
IMC but has IMC members working with the parent IMC in that locallity.
It would operate as part of the parent IMC, pointing to either the
parent IMC's frontpage or an alternative frontpage on that site, but not
a unique website.  If/when that subgroup, or prehaps a different group,
passes through the new-imc process they can setup a unique website at
the domain and prehaps get a city.indymedia.org (in addition to their
city.ny.indymedia.org).

I have also proposed to the IMCs in NY to have a state-wide IMC
conference in May and mentioned the idea of having a
collectivly-maintained site at ny.indymedia.org as one possible
discussion to be had.  So far there has been support for this, but I
agree, it should be decided on not only at the conference but then the
people who attended the conference go back to their local IMCs and have
each one agree to it individually.
