The problem here is that Chuck0 has (repeatedly) violated some pretty
basic conduct guidelines, and when asked to appologise and drop the
flames, simply continued.
We've all seen, and if you haven't you can look through the archives,
what happens when this behavior is allowed to continue. I myself was
involved in (and partially cause of) a pretty heated thread a few months
ago.
When personal attacks are allowed to go unchecked it creates
defensiveness and "consensus process" breaks down to a he said-she said
war. Before long you have people taking sides, people getting sick of
the infighting, and eventually everyone but those interested in conflict
leave. The "stronger" voices dominate the weaker, and out the window
goes any hopes of obtaining consensus on the issue.

That won't happen, not under the current circumstances. There has
already been shown that there is no consensus on the issue, several
people have expressed a strong disagreement with his origional proposal,
and many people have proposed alternatives. Instead of being involved
in the consensus process, by discussing these alternatives, Chuck0
(and others) have made personal attacks.
I would like to see the discussion continue, but not in that direction.
When people are making personal attacks on eachother it is impossible to
reach consensus, thus, continuing this discussion as-is is pointless.
Beyond this discussion, this list/wg is for new IMCs. I, for one, don't
want in-fighting to be the first thing people see when they start to get
involved with Indymedia!
