despite the confusion it seems that we are now reaching the end of the formal procedure.... ;))
last chance for objections, i suppose.... and if no objections: we are happy to join you all......

You are right Bart - Sorry a mistake on my part with my 'auto
filters' - the mail was only sent to me not process - but got filled
in my system as if it had - so again : below is the lancaster imc
mission statement and list of those who will be working on it.
This is the first imc i have helped through - so i am presuming that
we wait a week now to see if there are any comments - if not
Lancaster can proceed to request the domain name - and when they are
ready to have it pointed to their site.
cheers tony

we have read through the criteria, principles etc., and they are all
in accordance wiht the sentiments that we as a group have tried to
communicate in our (first version) mission statement (attached) - and
we are ready to commence the process, as far as we can see - meaning
that we see ourselves fit to propose lancaster imc as a new
imc........
we are working on setting up a contact list for the various areas
that we engage in, so far it looks somewhat like this - positions to
rotate to maximise horizontality, while maintaining stability:
tech: robin: r.d.green at lancaster.ac.uk
editorial etc.: Paul: paul.wilkinson at lancaster.newsquest.co.uk
network: martin: jmp at nephridium.org
radio: cookie: stephen.cook18 at btopenworld.com
(people not profit - contact cookie for collaboration on radion -
they are building as we type)
features etc.: Richard: r.twine at lancaster.ac.uk
translations: maia: maialengala at hotmail.com (so far we can cover:
spanish, basque, dutch, french and possibly turkish)...
We hope to contribute to the global network, and the uk network in
particular by working towards scalable and collaborative
implementations of news-sharing...
We are also working towards a skill-sharing conference in the
beginning of march - get in touch for that.....
If there is something missing - let us know - otherwise let's
roll....... we need the official stamp to continue our outreach (with
a 'good-looking url') ..
all the best,
martin (another one of lancaster imc)

MISSION STATEMENT:
Lancaster IMC
Mission Statement v.1.0
Lancaster Independent Media Centre (Lancaster IMC) is a
not-for-profit collective made up of various and diverse groups in
the Lancaster area, including journalists, students, educators, film
makers, artists, researchers, activists, and concerned human beings.
Affiliated with the Indymedia network, we cultivate and maintain
links with many related regional and global networks dedicated to
providing grass-roots, non-corporate coverage of "the news".
With the aim to strengthen the wider Lancaster community, we provide
a communication hub through which to collect and transmit information
emanating from the local and global levels.
We aim to provide services for local independent media producers and
artists to share the diverse skills involved in all aspects of media
(e.g., journalism, editing, and computer and information technologies
and theory) with interested members of the public. In recognition of
the fact that technical decisions have social and political
consequences, and that old and new technologies are ambiguous -
potentially both exclusive and inclusive-, we aim to democratise
technical skills and languages, and promote those that are, so that
they are accessible, intelligible and transmittable to and by all.
We are organised as a collective in which decisions are made by
consensus and debate through electronic discussion lists, as well as
at regular face-to-face meetings. We strive to operate with a
horizontal internal structure, reflecting seriously upon and
constructively addressing all informal hierarchies that may emerge
within the organisation.
Participation in organised activities is open to all; and
do-it-yourself activities are encouraged.
We are committed to freedom of and access to information. It is in
this spirit that we reserve the right to filter materials that
promote discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation,
ability, and other such social divisions. In the event that we
receive such material, we will collectively review each case in its
specific context to determine the most response-able course of action.
