G'Day :)

We are building a collective down in Perth Australia for a Perth
Indymedia.
We've got the email list worked out (imc-perth at lists.indymedia.org) and
its been mildly active for some time.

We've got a server
We've nearly finished deving some custom software which we recon most will
be mighty impressed with. (We are introducing some of our own ideas to the
open publishing concept such as a "radical investigative journalism"
process where folk can open up 'investigations' for features and people
can openly and anonymously contribute and a bunch of other nifty stuff.
We've got a space (A big room at the local university student union
building)
We got about ten core folk and probably around 30 'intrested' people
(based on e-loop membership + enquiries).

And we got no bux! However the local 'students and sustainability
collective (anarcho greenie collective)' are uming and arring over giving
us $1000 start up.
We plan to do our own server + connection due to us wanting to host our
own mailing lists for many of the local collectives (refugee liberation,
treesit groups, antiwar, queer etc)
We are holding meetings and are drafting a non-heirachial constitution up
that fits with the IMC principles of unity (with a few tweaks to fit a
couple of local tax laws on 'clubs & charities')

We feel there are some BIG issues that need to be tackled in the area,
particularly in regard with my countries horrific treatment of refugees,
so we intend to make something BIG with perth imc to help tell the REAL
story (hopefull from refugee voices themselves) about whats going on in
the so called 'lucky country'. Some big enviro issues too. We recently had
a perhaps 30,000+ people rally to save ningaloo reef from developers.
Joyous stuff.

Annnnnnyway, the question I come to you with, is twofold.
(A) What is the 'formal' process to become a 'real' IMC (we have
registered perthimc.asn.au for the purpose of development.. Keep it quiet
tho, we dont want that to become official, its just a temp name till we
become 'real').
(B) Any suggestion on raising bux? We are looking at doing some fundraiser
gigs with local bands, but athats quite a limmited resource, and we don't
actually know if the S&S kids will actually give us bux+ consensus with
treelivin folk can take a loooong time :( )

Apologies If this is a little 'ranty' and thanks for your help in advance,
Shayne.

What I can say is that Microsoft has enough cash on hand to pay 5,000
programmers to write free software for about a century. There is clearly
no need for the proprietary software model (RMS)
