hello Freddie,
i'll answer your questions one by one ok? Regarding the language, if we
countinue to write in english lots of people will be able to follow Puerto
Rico's process, but some of our companer at s from latina america won't. I'm CC
all of our messages to new imc list and to imc latina list (most of the
latin imc have one or more lisaons in this list, such as in imc
communication and in imc finance). If you want to ask me something in
private or don't want some of our messages to have a copy in the list
archives just let me know it won't be a problem ;-)
It's great to hear that you have 10-12 people discussing the principles of
unity, the criteria membership, an editorial police (look at seattle imc
editorial police) and doing toghether the first steps to one of the firsts
imc's in central america. This is awesome!
1-So about the space: Indy NYC is an exception. that space is awesome! Here
in south america, if i'm not wrong only imc sp and imc argentina have a
space. indy sp works in an occupation downtown and imc argentina for a long
time operated in sebastian's room (now they are working in a bank!). Some
"gringo imcs" such as imc Philly and IMC DC divide their spaces with other
progressive groups, as we'll soon do here in BH. I would reccomend you to do
your meetings in an open space (a square, cultural centerm, café, etc). It's
very expensive to mantein a space : (
2- consensus workshops are a very good idea. regarding the process and the
example you brought up about warcry in NYC i'd say that the autonomy of each
imc leads it to their own process. I have friends in NYC and heard lots
about what happened ther e, it's difficult to give an oppinion. I can tell
you about imc brasil experience. We're six collectives that use the same web
site and figured out our own process based of course in the indymedia
principles (membreship criteria and principles of unity).
3 - Who to consider a member is hard to answer, but given the principle of
consensus, anyone who is attending a meeting have the right to give a
personal oppinion respecting the others who participate in the group for a
longer time. I've translated a great document on consensus and mutual
respect to portuguese, if you want i can foward to you. the english version
you can find here: http://www.consensus.net/ocac3.html
4- Guess you've figured out ;-) http://lists.indymedia.org/listinfo/cmi-pr
(if you need any instructions on the administration just tell me. i'd
reccomend you to ask listwork to install a spam assassin for the list)
5- You can chose some of our softwares. the main are: active (the first one
develloped in australia - indy seattle uses it), sf-active (sf kids improved
active, good support, imc argentina and imc uruguay uses it), mir (developed
in germany, imc brasil just installed it). I'd recommend you to use
sf-active, you can find support in tech latina lista.
hope to have answered your questions. if there is anytheing else i can help
just let me know.
peace,
dri
