Hi all,
We have been doing alot of work toward getting the word out here in Erie about our site and the response has been great. The participation level and diversity of groups involved has been good. I unfortunatly am leaving Erie to become a union organizer but I assure everyone here it is beng left in very capable hands. This email address (erieindymedia at yahoo.com) will be taken over by Amanda. She will be moderating the site along with our tech, Brett (paco at velocity.net) We have been focusing on getting our non-profit status so we can begin taking donations. We are cuuently exporing two options on this: 1. to umbrella under urbana-champaign or 2. to get our own non-profit status. We should be able to decide this at our next monthly meeting and get the process underway. We have a person that is interested it placing bill boards and bus signs around town with our URL on them.
It's been a long time coming but we officially adopted the following editorial policy at last weeks meeting. Please let us know what else we need to do to get connected to the gobal indy media network.
Erie Indy Media Editorial Policy The Erie Independent Media Center is an open publishing forum providing a space for everyone in the Erie community to become reporters, providing an alternative to the corporate media outlets in the area. Those who feel left out of the coverage by corporate media outlets are especially encouraged to post their news and events. There is an editorial collective that oversees and monitors Erie Indy Media (EIM) that is open to participation by anyone in the community that regularly attends EIM Monthly meetings. The dates of these meetings can be found by going to the participate section on the front page of the website.
EIM encourages the free and open expression of news, commentary, opinion and analysis; however, the EIM editorial collective may in certain circumstances edit, hide, or delete post according the following criteria:
Advertisements- Advertisements for for-profit products and /or services will be removed from the newswire; however, events may be posted in the community calendar.
Racist/Sexist or other discriminatory speech- this type of speech will be hidden because its presence on the open wire may discourage participation from our diverse community.
Duplicate Post- In case of an exact duplicate post the original post will be kept and any subsequent one deleted; however, relevant non-duplicate comments from the subsequent post will be saved and added to the original post.
Direct Threats- Any direct threats on specific people or small, easily-identifiable groups of people will be deleted.
Pornography- If a post contains sexually explicit material that the EIM editorial collective determines to be pornographic, it will be dealt with as an abuse to the newswire.
Spam- Any post that the EIM editorial collective feels is simply flooding the newswire with pointless material will be dealt with appropriately. And if the spamming continues the IP address involved may be blocked from participation.
Blatant Libel- Any unsubstantiated libelous comments will be hidden. The EIM editorial collective is not responsible for doing your research for you.
