In a town with a history of good-ole-boys-club politics both in
government and business as well as one newspaper, it's not hard to see
that the press is less than free. There is an evident need for more
community-based coverage, both with regard to radical politics and with
regard to the issues that affect everyday life here.
New Orleans Indymedia is the online component and main focus of the New
Orleans Independent Media Center, or NOLA IMC. The NOLA IMC is an entirely
volunteer-run collective of individuals interested in helping present
unfiltered news and information by and for Louisianans, particularly the
greater New Orleans community and those who are typically
under-represented in media production and content.
The New Orleans IMC collective has agreed to the IMC principles of unity
in their current form.
We also have concensed to the IMC Membership Criteria.

Mission Statement
The mission of the New Orleans IMC is to provide well-crafted, honest
information about events that are either ignored or misrepresented by
other media sources and to combat inaccuracies in the mainstream media.
Furthermore we seek to empower our communities and citizens to make their
own media and thereby liberate the flow of information both from
controlling groups and corporate interests. We are the local unit of the
worldwide Indymedia Network and seek to provide information not only from
New Orleans but all of Louisiana and other areas of the rural south when
possible. with the inherent bias of a news organization run as a business.
Webelieve that the job of disseminating information does not belong to a
privileged class of reporters and editors, but to everyone. It is our duty
as citizens to act as journalists so that the public knows the truth in
every instance, not just when the truth is to our political and economic
rulers' advantage. We seek to be an inclusive organization which will grow
as a community, and not as a hierarchy.
