Hi!
At last there's some *discussion* on the list! Methinks that's a positive development.
I don't think both proposed principles of unity are contradictory and probably differences can be resolved through discussion. A strength of Tonyo's version is that it contextualizes IMC in the long history of struggle in the Philipines. And Tonyo definitely has a point about the incendiary language. Anyone who has monitored this list or went through the archives can easily acknowledge that. Does he really have to dig up the URLs for you?
Boud, your queries into Bayan's organizational structure are not exactly relevant. Tonyo is participating as an individual. The fact that he's with Bayan shows his track record as an activist. Definitely he would be able to bring in tons of interesting content and expertise and encourage many activists to participate.
So let's continue the discussion first before we take a decision. Separate, regional IMCs are an option of course. But maybe cooperation is possible. There hasn't been any attempt yet. It all depends on respect and I haven't seen much of it on this list.

hi shayne,
(1) If you compare the document posted by tonyo (below) with the
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/PrinciplesOfUnity
you'll see that the main differences are that all the
anti-authoritarian, anti-hierarchical words have been removed. Maybe the
network would accept this (though i would be surprised), maybe not.
(2) tonyo's document was posted to new-imc despite the fact that it's
in competition with the PofU of the Quezon City (Manila) group on
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcPilipinas
AFAIK, there was no discussion about it on the imc-pilipinas list by tonyo
to attempt to find consensus before sending it to new-imc.
On the other hand, the Quezon City (Manila) group have chosen to resolve the
general conflict/lack of communication between them and tonyo by
applying as IMC Manila rather than IMC Pilipinas. IMHO, this is constructive
and reflects the reality of the group.
IMHO, there is not yet any clear discussion by tonyo about the
hierarchical aspects of his group (Bayan) and about how to
constructively deal with the risks of hierarchy.
