dear boud and shane,

thanks for reading the draft principles of unity that i posted. thanks too
for your concern for the efforts towards building an imc in our country.

however, i wish to point out three items on the said draft which seemed to
have been forgotten in certain posts yesterday:

> 8. IMC-Pilipinas shall practice mutual respect, mutual benefit, consensus,
> consultation, and the independence and initiative of all persons and
> parties interested in joining or supporting it. No person or party or
> political belief shall arbitrarily impose its will on any or all the others.
>
> 9. IMC-Pilipinas shall – by way of consensus and consultation – choose a
> spokesperson who can and would represent it in global decision-making
> processes of Indymedia.
>
> 10. IMC-Pilipinas shall be committed to the principle of human equality,
> and shall not descriminate, including discrimination based upon race,
> region, gender, age, class or sexual orientation. As such, it shall not act
> in a manner that endangers, intimidates, or physically harms any member of
> the group, including by sexual harassment or acts of violence. It shall
> strive to act in a respectful manner to its members as well as the public.

i think these approximate the anti-hierarchy principles that the global
documents contain. in fact these are even more practical in day-to-day needs
of the prospective indymedia in the philippines.

for instance, the draft princples' item no. 8 calls for consensus and
consultation and not for the setting up of any vertical structure over and
above the persons prospectively working together in the indyemdia in the
philippines.

currently, there is an ongoing discussion on the principle of unity. there is
a crying need for a third draft that would be acceptable with all the people
now interested in imc-building in the philippines. such would be a product of
hopefully fruitful and meaty debate and discussion among filipinos and
filipino groups.

thanks,
tonyo
