What kind of outreach have you done to bring together a diverse group
of people?
We are from different parts of Kenya. On several occasions, we
conducted brainstorming sessions with media practitioners and ‘media
lovers.’ These were spontaneous sessions that discussed media at the
grassroots level. From these discussions, people and issues emerged.
A group of approximately thirty people then met on two occasions.

Please write an introductory statement about why you want to
participate in the Indymedia Network (see above).
African culture places a big emphasis on collective effort. Virtually
all the forty-two communities of Kenya have aspects of their
respective cultures that clearly portray this emphasis. However, this
unity is often compromised through power struggles that stem from
divisive tendencies like hierarchical structures. The principles of
Indymedia outline the kernel of action oriented unity that can propel
media into a deeper level of truth as it is and not truth as we want
it to be. These, are the principles that have drawn us into
Indymedia.
