resources:
Most of the resources Central Mass IMC can contribute to the global IMC community have to do with bringing a unique region, including Worcester, New England\'s third largest city,to a network of trans-local solidarity
through the free media forum created with IMC. One of our primary resources as people is our committment to outreach to local/ global social movements, artists, community groups, journalists, and all voices through which the
local struggles of Worcester may be understood. As well, we are committed to participation in forums through which the people involved in these struggles might learn from and inform social movements and struggles for liberation
globally.
More concrete resources include organizing skills in grassroots social movements, information campaigns and outreach; established and mutually aware translocal connections, for example between Worcester and
Buenos Aires; and technical knowledge, including programming, web design, and server building. We will make available our connections to local community media, such as Vocero, the area\'s Spanish language newspaper, and
the alternative newspaper In City Times.
outreach:
Outreach began at an event at Worcester State College in March 2003 about the global justice movement where a professor from that college who is involved in WMass IMC made an announcement about a first meeting. From there, a small group met with several members of the WMass IMC, made no decisions, but brainstormed the groups and individuals that might be interested in forming a Central Mass collective. We then had one or two
more meetings about outreach in April 2003, and went to several groups including: Worcester Global Action Network (WoGAN), WPIs Justice, Worcester Artist Group, Worcester State College communication classes, the
Radical Cheerleaders, Worcester Peace Works, Earn-A-Bike, Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center and others. We also had a sign-up sheet at several global justice and anti-war events. In early May 2003, we held the first official meeting at the Worcester Public Library. About 30
people attended and we brainstormed our visions, resources, and further outreach. Since that meeting we have met regularly and several people have taken it upon themselves to continue outreach efforts through existing networks. We plan to continue outreach and step up efforts when
an outlet (most likely the website first) is created.
introductory_statement:
We, the Central Mass IMC, are dedicated to building media democracy by providing progressive and honest coverage of issues affecting our local community and all communities around the globe working towards justice. We will be a means through which the people of CMASS can exchange ideas and broaden our collective imagination. We will be an outlet for the production and distribution of media, serving as a source of acurate and passionate
tellings of the truth, free from corporate filtering. Indymedia serves as an important alternative to the profit-driven agenda of the corporate media and by joining the IMC network we will be creating a new space for all those engaged in the work of peace, heart, justice and creativity, in CMass and around the globe,to be the media and change the world for the better.
