resources:
We have two techies who are both proficient in HTML,
server admin, and a server, ibiblio, which will host our
site indefinitely and for free. DadaIMC is already in the
beta stages on that server, and we have purchased the
domain name imcscotland.org. However, once our own site
is done, we will help other IMCs (esp IMC-UK and IMCs in
the Africa, like Nigeria) put together their sites. We
also will maintain a strong organizational presence in
Scotland.
outreach:
We already *have* a diverse group of people. We\'ve an IMC
with all but official recognition for a year, having our e-mail list on imc-scotland-discussion at lists.indymedia.org
and a sub-page on www.indymedia.org.uk. Our members range
from independent film-makers like Franny Armstrong (producere of Drowned Out, film on Narmada Dam), long-time
anarchists from ACE who help produce the newsheet CounterInformation (for 20 years!), and members of the Scottish Green Party. There\'s been lots of interest - our
first public event in June got a few hundred people out and our event this weekend (Guerilla Camcorder Weekend)
with its video-making workshops and films on international
issues to draw in even more people. Everyone from local
artists to working-class people make up our collective.
We show the European NewReal regularly also, and books
weekly videos at the Forrest Cafe.
introductory_statement:
We want to participate in the Indymedia network because
we believe in the power of independent media to open
a space for radical change in the world - to build a world big enough for all our voices. In Scotland, we have been
an active member of IMC-UK for a year, but feel that the long distance, technical problems, and so on justify
our having our own independent and autonomous site and
role within the Indymedia network, although we plan
to fully co-operate and share resources with the IMC-UK
network, and wish them the best! There\'s lots of
interest in indymedia in Scotland, but people keep
asking us where scotland.indymedia.org is! For more
details, read our post to new-imc at lists.indymedia.org.
