resources:
While we\'re new to this, as soon as we become more skilled we\'ll help the NIMC as much as possible, and we are particularly eager to help other Asian IMCs take root. If and when we have resources, we will likely gladly share them with the imc community.

outreach:
Some of our collective are members of other NGOs, NPOs and progressive groups, and we have worked to make them aware of our goals and enlist their support. We\'ve also handed flyers to other groups at demos and found a lot of interest (some people have already posted to our test site, and many are already aware of Indymedia abroad and are keen for it to be up in Japan). We have, in addition, announced our activities on mailing lists and got a good response. We have a good sized core group and anticipate it growing.

introductory_statement:
Corporate media in Japan has a stranglehold we would like to break. It is both slavish to the west and very rigidly controlled by a system of \"Kisha Clubs\" (press clubs) which grant access to mainstream outlets in return for a willingness to settle for official news (i.e., censored).

As a result, people tend to be in the dark and are in need of both information and empowerment. The corporate media not only does not inform people but it sustains needless and wasteful consumption because of its close ties to political and corporate power.

This makes Indymedia a needed and welcome addition to a barren landscape, helping also to make individuals and groups who are working in a vacuum aware of one another so that alliances can be formed to help bring about social change.
