(I know there has been talk on the new-imc list about developing a response
to the lists proposal that is on the imc-process list. Here's what I sent
to imc-process as my opinion about the proposal.)

SUMMARY:
Support for IMC-Italy proposal, but suggestion that we've already agreed to
several of the main points, and agreed to use
imc-communication at indymedia.org as our liaison list. Essentially, we
already have the principle of a liaison-based list at imc-communication, we
just need people to facilitate it and help it work.

Hi everyone,

Jay from IMC-Philadelphia here. I know, I haven't communicated on
imc-process for many months. Lots of reasons for that, none interesting
enough to mention.

I want to state my full support for the essence of the proposal put forth
by IMC-Italy to enhance inter-IMC communication
(http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-process/2003-February/004648.html)
-- Indymedia has long needed an e-mail list that would function as a place
for IMCs to communicate with each other.

In fact, it sounds very much like a similar proposal that went to this list
in April, 2002:
At that point, there were objections to our turning imc-process into a
liaison-based list. (look through the archives and you'll see there was a
lot of discussion.) Ultimately we agreed that imc-process would stay the
same, but we would start using imc-commuincation at indymedia.org as a
liaison-based communication list
(http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-process/2003-February/004648.html).

Has that happened? Not really. Why? Many reasons, one of which is the
lack of good facilitation. I take some fault for this, as I didn't step up
to help imc-commuincation be a successful place. We did go through a
pretty extensive roll call, and as I remember, people who didn't give a
roll call were taken off the list. Not to long after that, though, the
experiment seems to have been dropped.

My thought at the moment is that the imc-process list has already confirmed
the idea that imc-communication at indymedia.org should be a liaison-based
Indymedia list, to use as a slow, translated, safe place for IMCs around
the world to communicate. My suggestion is that we focus on making the
imc-communication list into exactly the kind of healthy, effective
liaison-based communication list that we all want. Of course if people
here support using imc-process as the liaison-based list, rather than
imc-communication, I'll be all for it, it's just that we already went
through these discussions extensively, and chose to focus on
imc-communication -- doesn't matter to me which list we us, just that WE
USE IT.

I believe that will happen only if enough people are willing to act as list
facilitators, and actually do the job.

Imc-Italy, might people from your collectives be interested in taking an
active roll in facilitating?

Jay
P.S. I'm not subcribed to imc-process right now, so please cc me on direct
responses.
