My Name is Wael Khalil, Local from Cairo.

I'm part of wide network of activists who have been part of the huge anti-war mobilisation on 20-21 March, 2003. I was the first to suggest launching IMC Cairo immmdiately to cope with the new events
We need it Urgently

Hello everyone,

Below you can find the reply that I got from Jay yesterday after telling him that we need the cairo.imc domain ASAP and that we urge that to support us to the maximum possible.

I forward this to you because I want a) to remind you to let Jay know how urgent this is and b) to write him (if you didn't find the time yet)--and show him that the IMC-Cairo is everything but "western dominated" (see second paragraph and what I highlighted there).

Thanks so much,
best, salam,

Chris

(forwarded message from Jay:)

Chris,

Thanks for the message. I'm definitely convinced!
Seems like there's a lot of support in the new-imc
working group to support the immediate set-up of a
temporary site for the Cairo IMC group -- perhaps at
cairo.indymedia.org, but preferably at either
cairo-imc.org or something like
cairo-tmp.indymedia.org. You can follow the
discussion in the archives of the new-imc working
group, (go to lists.indymedia.org, scroll down to
"new-imc" and you'll see the link to the archives.

As I told Ian, something you could do to help would be
to e-mail the new-imc at indymedia.org working group and
let people to know about the relationship of your
group with local activists. That's really the main
concern about creating a permanent Cairo IMC, that it
seems to be dominated by western visitors to Cairo
(perhaps long-term visitors though, and/or
western-born permanent residents, which does make a
difference). That shouldn't get in the way of
creating a temporary site.

I'll keep pushing.

Jay
