Hello all,
The Oklahoma Independent Media Center is ready to apply for membership in
the Global Network of Independent Media Centers.
Our website has been up and running for a while now, is hosted by the folks
in St. Louis, and can be found here: http://www.okimc.org
We have a mailing list, imc-okla, which can be found here:
http://lists.indymedia.org/listinfo/imc-okla
Membership Criteria:
A. Agree in spirit to the New IMC Mission Statement and Principles of Unity
All members at the most recent meeting agree with the Mission Statement and
Principles of Unity
B. Have a committed membership substantial enough to sustain a
functional IMC
We have had over 50 individuals attend meetings, have over 40 people on our
mailing list, and have a number of regular contributors to the website.
C. Have open and public meetings (no one group can have exclusionary
"ownership" of an IMC)
All of our meetings have and will be free and open to the public.
D. Work toward developing a local Mission Statement or Statement of Purpose.
Network Mission Statement may be adopted or used on an interim basis
Our mission statement can be found here:
http://www.okimc.org/info/display/mission/index.php
E. Establish and publish an editorial policy which is developed and
functions through democratic process, and with full transparency
Our editorial policy can be found here:
http://www.okimc.org/info/display/policy/
Both the mission statement and editorial policy may be revised if a proposal
is submitted and agreed upon through normal consensus process.
F. Agree to the use of Open Publishing as described in the NIMC
Editorial Policy (editorial collective comments: "We did agree that the term
"Open Publishing" was one that is still being defined by the Global Network
Collective, and we would wait and see what the results were before rewriting
this criteria)
We agree to the use of Open Publishing and promote the use of our open
newswire
G. Adopt a decision-making policy that is in alignment with consensus
principles which include open, transparent and egalitarian processes
We have been using and will continue to use consensus decision making in our
meetings and organizing.
H. Have a spokesperson(s) willing and capable of participating in the global
decision-making process and meetings as a rotating liaison/representative
with a clear understanding of the responsibilities that come with this role
I am the current spokesperson and we will be rotating the responsibility on
a regular basis.
I. Participate in the key IMC Network Communication Methods that pertain to
the health and vitality of the Network and that contribute to the work of
the IMC. Assure that at least one person from your local IMC participates at
any given time on the IMC-Communications list
I am subscribed to the IMC-Comm list as well as a few others. We encourage
other members to also join lists and participate in and monitor the activity
of global working groups.
J. Have no official affiliation with any political party state or candidate
for office (comments: but individual producers have freedom to do whatever
they like and local IMCs can "feature" stories about various political
parties and initiatives)
We have no such affiliations.
K. IMCs shall in no way engage in commercial for-profit enterprises. (We
could add: The IMCN is committed to the decommercialization of information
and will disassociate from any local IMC that decides to become a for profit
media corporation).
We have not and will not engage in commercial for-profit enterprises.
L. Display a local version of the IMC i logo on your website and literature.
We have a local version of the IMC "i" logo as well as a local version the
top banner:
http://www.okimc.org
M. Include the IMC Network current Cities List on your site, preferably on
the front page.
On the website
That should be everything. Please respond to our mailing list if there are
any questions or concerns: imc-okla at lists.indymedia.org
Peace,
Chris Bryant
