This is Jay from the Philly IMC.  I've been involved with the new-imc 
working group for a while.  I'm so excited you're interested in 
helping!  I'm sure the Lawrence and Indiana groups will be happy to hear 
from you.  Definitely let me know if you have any questions about the 
new-imc process and I'll try to answer them.  Also, make sure to cc 
relevant communications to the new-imc working list, just so the rest of us 
can keep an ear out to what's happening.  (you don't have to cc everything, 
but do keep us up to date.)
