Mission statement
=================

 Indymedia Limburg website provides an interactive platform for reports from the struggles for a world based on freedom, cooperation, justice and solidarity, and against environmental degradation, neoliberal exploitation, racism and patriarchy. The reports cover a wide range of issues and social movements - from neighbourhood campaigns to grassroots mobilisations, from critical analysis to direct action.

The content of the Indymedia Limburg website is created through a system of open publishing: anyone can upload a written, audio and video report or a picture directly to the site through an openly accessible web interface. Through this system of 'Direct Media', Indymedia erodes the dividing line between reporters and reported, between active producers and passive audience: people are enabled to speak for themselves. At bigger actions, Indymedia Limburg volunteers extend this participatory model by establishing 'Public Access Terminals' on the streets, and facilitating direct access to the technical equipment that enables participants to upload to the website.

IMC Limburg is part of the worldwide network of Independent Media Centres (IMCs), focuses on limburg (province in Belgium and The Netherlands). IMC Limburg collaborates on sharing contents and resources amongst themselves and with the global IMC network. The main element of Indymedia Limburg is the website; this platform generates a variety of other activities including video-production, film-screenings, printed materials and public interventions.

Volunteers of Indymedia Limburg act as moderators on the IMC UK website. We aim to live up to the following principles:

Indymedia Limburg works on a non-hierarchical basis
we reject all systems of domination and discrimination
we acknowledge that the struggle for a better world takes many forms. The focus of the Indymedia Limburg collective is on grassroots politics, actions and campaigns
Indymedia Limburg does not have any ties with political parties or larger NGO's
we understand that by lobbying there will be no radical change. As a collective our attitude is assertive, and where necessary confrontational
Inherent in the mainstream corporate media is a strong bias towards Capitalism's power structures, and it is an important tool in propagating these structures around the globe. While the mainstream media conceal their manifold biases and alignments, we clearly state our position. Indymedia Limburg does not attempt to take an objective and impartial standpoint: Indymedia Limburg clearly states its subjectivity.

Reply to IMC Membership criteria
================================

IMC MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA - DRAFT
Each IMC and Global Working Group is expected to:
a. Agree in spirit to the NIMC Mission Statement and Principles of Unity,
==all agree

b. Have a committed membership substantial enough to sustain a functional
IMC,
==starting with 6, try to find more people from different groups on the limburg social forum

c. Have open and public meetings (no one group can have exclusionary
"ownership" of an IMC),
==we try to meet in a place where everyone has to travel allmost the same distance, all meetings are open

d. Work toward developing a local Mission Statement or Statement of Purpose.
Network Mission Statement may be adopted or used on an interim basis,
==Mission statement based on the imc.uk mission statement

e. Establish and publish an editorial policy which is developed and
functions through democratic process, and with full transparency,
==Edito policy based on the wvl edito policy (short and good)

f. Agree to the use of Open Publishing as described in the NIMC Editorial
Policy [editorial collective comments: "We did agree that the term "Open
Publishing" was one that is still being defined by the Global Network
Collective, and we would wait and see what the results were before rewriting
this criteria],
==agree

g. Adopt a decision-making policy that is in alignment with consensus
principles which include open, transparent and egalitarian processes,
h. Have a spokesperson(s) willing and capable of participating in the global
decision-making process and meetings as a rotating liaison/representative,
with a clear understanding of the responsibilities that come with this role,
==voting only with consensus, who isn't on meetings can vote via the list

i. Participate in the key IMC Network Communication Methods that pertain to
the health and vitality of the Network and that contribute to the work of
the IMC. Assure that at least one person from your local IMC participates
at any given time on the IMC-Communications list,
==Zoom will start as a spokesperson but this wil be reviewed later on

j. (NOT FINALIZED): Have no official affiliation with any political party,
state or candidate for office (comments: but individual producers have
freedom to do whatever they like and local IMCs can "feature" stories about
various political parties and initiatives),
==changed to: The participation in indymedia is done individually, and not as a member of a political organization. Our relation from political parties will be done in a distant and independent way, this is why we will not make any promotion of party (or candidate), or some propaganda with electoralist goal in general

everyone agreed changing this even without discution

k. IMCs shall in no way engage in commercial for-profit enterprises. [We
could add: The IMCN is committed to the decommercialization of information
and will disassociate from any local IMC that decides to become a for profit
media corporation.]
==we love non-profit! (so: "yes, we agree")

l. Display a ³local version² of the IMC ³i² logo on your website and
literature.
==the logo has already been made

m. Include the IMC Network current ³Cities List² on your site, preferably on
the front page.
==it's already on the testsite

NETWORK MEMBERSHIP
1. Network Membership is open to any group that accepts the above
criteria for membership. In the case of several requests from the same city
or region, we will encourage them to meet and work together.

2. Network Membership in the NIMC will be confirmed by the New IMC
Working Group, which is accountable to IMC-Process and ultimately to the
NIMC decision-making process.

==we support both points

DEFINING OUR TERMS:
For clarity and precision, we need to define our terms more carefully so
there is less room for misunderstanding. Also explains how we as a culture
(the IMC culture) use these terms.
* NIMC = Network of Independent Media Centers
* Open = means that diverse people and groups are welcome to attend and that
no attempt is made to exclude people based on their sex, race, gender,
class, age, ability or religion.
* Official affiliation = still being worked on
* IMC Network Communication Methods = international email lists, IRC
discussions and logs, phone calls and conference calls, and face-to-face
meetings.
* Local version = acknowledges the many variations of the name and the logo
that will occur depending on the language and culture of the local IMC.
