we have just filled out a new-imc form for biotech.indymedia as a 
muliti-lingual topic site and we hope that you are as excited about it as 
we are. Have a look a http://www.biotechimc.org/

A short explanation: Some Indymedia volunteers worldwide have been busy 
with the idea for some months now, we have a testsite running since June, 
and we used it in cooperation with volunteers from IMC Portland and others 
to cover the WTO-biotech meeting in Sacramento.

In short this site is based on 3 steps:
- syndication from local IMCs (we already have topic-syndication from IMC 
UK and IMC Portland, and that works fine)
- open publishing
- dissemination: articles that are posted on biotech are reposted on 
appropriate local IMCs (manually so far). Features and translations are 
also offered/posted to local IMCs.

Over the last months we have been discussing the specific issues of the 
biotech topic-site also in the context of topic sites in general. Those 
opportunities and challenges are brought together in a proposal topic IMCs 
in general that is also submitted to imc-process now.

sitio tematico multilingue y esperamos que estais tan exitad*s como

una breve explicacion: un*s cuant*s voluntari*s de indymedia de diferentes 
partes del mundo estaban desarrollando esa idea durante los ultimos meses. 
desde hace junio esta en funcionamiento un sitio de pruebas que usamos en 
cooperacion con un*s voluntarias del cmi portland y otr*s para cubrir la 
reuncion biotech de la omc en sacramento.

en pocas palabras este sitio esta basado en tres pilares:
- sindicacion de cmis locales (ya tenemos sindicacion tematica con el cmi 
del reino unido y de portland, y funciona bastante bien)
- publicacion abierta
- diseminacion: articulos publicados en biotech son republicados en los 
cmis locales apropiados (de momento de forma manual). los editoriales y las 
traducciones se ofrecen/publican a los cmis locales

durante los meses pasados estabamos debatiendo sobre los asuntos 
especificos del sitio tematico biotech, tambien en el contexto de sitios 
tematicos en general.  Esas oportunidades y esos retos se unen en una 
propuesta sobre  CMIs de topicos en general, que ahora son tambien 
remitidos a imc-process.

mehrsprachige, thematische site ausgefuellt, und wir hoffen, dass ihr

Eine kurze Erklaerung dazu: Einige Indmedia-Freiwillige weltweit 
beschaeftigen sich seit nun seit Monaten mit der Idee, seit Juni steht eine 
Testseite im Netz und wir haben sie bereits zusammen mit Freiwilligen von 
Indymedia Portland und anderswo fuer das WTO-Biotechnologie-Treffen in 
Sacramento benutzt.

In kuerze besteht die Seite aus drei Teilen:
- Syndikation von Gentechnik-Artikeln von lokalen IMCs (Wir haben bereits 
eine thematische Syndikation von IMC UK und IMC Portland, und das 
funktioniert gut.)
- Open Publishing
- Weiterverbreitung von Artikel, direkt auf der Biotech-Seite gepubliziert 
werden auf den geeigenten lokalen IMCs (zur Zeit per Hand). Features und 
Uebersetztungen werden ebenfalls lokalen IMCs angeboten oder dort publiziert.

Inden letzten Monaten haben wir nicht nur die speziellen Fragen der 
Biotechnolgie-Seite diskutiert, sondern auch thematische IMCs im 
allgemeinen. Diese Moeglichkeiten und Herausforderungen sind in einem 
grundsaetzlichen Vorschlag fuer thematische IMCs zusammengefasst der 
ebenfalls an imc-process geschickt ist.
