[New-imc] neutrality in handling the Belgian requests

Hello ,

I found this on the website of pseudopunk.

”I'm building a syndication site for the Belgian imc's based on
kellan's imc_agg scripts. I'll put the whole in an SF-Active site
so people can easily modify static pages and we can easily run some
publishing for belgian & global news. I'm quite happy with the current
result of it. I hope to be able to put it live as soon as possible.
I think before we ever put it live, we need at least some local imc's
to have passed the new-imc process. Liège is allready in imc-process
and Limburg nearly has everything togehter. Then there's Imc Vlaanderen
who decided to stop. In the place Imc Ovl & Imc Antwerpen will rise up. This
makes allready 5 local imc's, fair enough to force the Imc Liège
& Imc Wvl proposal.”

I have a big problem with the last sentence ` to force the imc Liege and wvl
proposal`.

As I recall, in August, Bart did made a proposal and we discussed about it
in the General Meeting of September.

http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/imc-belgium-process/2003-September/0015
95.htm

This was the conclusion of the meeting:
"We zijn gewonnen voor het voorstel van WVL+Liège, maar denken dat daar tijd
voor nodig is. De lokale initiatieven moeten de tijd krijgen om te groeien
en te rijpen. We willen zelf stappen ondernemen om het lokale werk beter te
ondersteunen. Er moeten ook meer autonome lokale groepen komen. We denken
ook dat het mediacircus daar een rol in kan spelen. Lokaal willen we ook
niet verengen tot "provinciaal". ...

Translation in English:
We are in favour for the WVL and Liege proposal, but we think this needs
time. Local initiatives need to get the time to grow and to develop. We want
ourselves take action to support local initiatives. There is also need for
more local autonomous groups. We also think the Mediacircus can take a role
in this. Locally does not mean necessarily `by province`. ...(then there
follows some conclusions on imc vlaanderen, but this is not relevant any
more)

I have the feeling the meaning of these conclusions is not properly
understood. We want to support local initiatives, but this does not
necessarily mean there is a need to `force` all kind of formal virtual imc`s
by province.

If there is a real local group working in a community, city, or around an
issue, this can also mean `locally`.

Apperantly, Bart wants to block the Mediacircus request. He also have some
doubts about a Molenbeek request.

As I read the open diary of Pseudopunk, knowing his influence in the new imc
list, my opinion is he is not well placed to do a follow up of the Belgian
request.
Apparently he has a rigid vision on how the Belgian imc landscape should
develop.

He writes he even wants to force it.

I don’t have a problem with Bart as a person and I do appreciate his
technical support and other work. Normally he is quite objective in the
whole imc-belgium discussion.

that`s why I was so surprised by his reaction. But as I read his diary, he
does not hide he has an agenda how the future belgian imc network should
look like.

Only this shows he cannot be the person blocking or approving requests. In
Dutch we call this `belangenvermenging` (mixture of interests?)

With best regards,

Mara
