resources:
The group we have assembled has immense organizing experience and a deep history in many different mediums. I believe we have a particular expertise in screenprinting, zines, and graphic design. Additionally we are enmeshed in the vibrant art/music culture in providence and it is a priority for us to allow these strands to be visible and relevant in the work that we do. We are using donated server space, so we will not be able to contribute that. We are using a content management system called Drupal for out site and we would, of course, be happy to share our modification with anybody. Drupal is an open source project so probably most of our more significant customizations will be contributed back to that project.

outreach:
We had several large brainstorming meetings to start off our organizing efforts roughly 5 months ago where we invited people from the many different art / media / political action oriented groups around Providence (and slightly farther). During these sessions we mapped the needs and resources in the greater Providence region and brainstormed a list of other organizations and individuals that would also likely be interested in collaboratively building up this project. At this time our common bonds seem to be an interest in creating a resource center (both virtual and physical) for organizations and politically minded people in the rhode island / narragansett bay region to learn media skills and express their own political opinions and ideas. While, we inevitably drew on our own personal networks, the result seems to be that we have gathered together interested parties on our email list (currently 43 list members) and through representation at meetings that displayed a reaso
nably diverse cross-section of the region. We clearly have a long way to go in terms of the group reflecting the diversity of the region, but we have recognized group diversity as a priority.

introductory_statement:
We are interested in formally joining the indymedia network because we recognize the strength in staying connected to other like minded activists from different regions and we feel that we can offer a functional and stable media center to the network. While our focus is primarily geared towards providing resources and developing skills in the local community we imagine that we probably have some collective experience that we can share with indymedia centers globally and that this sharing would be mutually beneficial.
