Mike,
It's great that you've decided to get involved with the indymedia project.
Louisville has a history with
the network, specifically, a Louisville / Ohio valley imc once existed. It
fell apart for various reasons, which can be researched by looking thru the
archives of the old OVIMC mailing list. September and October 2001 were
active times on the list.
Currently, a Cincinnati IMC is forming, sometimes using the OVIMC list to
organize. The group has other resources as well. Also, the old OVIMC website
is operating as an archive of what was once posted on the site. I was so
happy to see my past posts kept available there. It seems to rely on the
guys personal server space, so using it publicly is not possible. It
(OVIMC/Louisville) is not now an authorized, active IMC.
I've signed you up for the OVIMC list, and perhaps you will post a test
article to the old OVIMC site.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and be sure to read the stuff
from The New IMC Working Group.
Peace,

resources:
We have access to two, possibly three, servers. All being run and maintained
by people interested/involved in the imc project and other alternative media
projects. We also already have two imc tech volunteers who want to work on
getting the site up an running soon. We weren\'t sure about bandwidth at our
last meeting, so we will have to get back to you on that one.
outreach:
We are still in the begining stages of organizing. Thus far we have done
outreach at local coffee shops. At our last meeting we discussed attending
community organization meetings and monthly open-mics to talk about starting
an imc.
introductory_statement:
There is virtually no coverage of important community events. For example,
last week a community organized campaign to stop toxic air pollution began a
week long study of the toxins released into \'fenceline\' neighborhoods by
chemical corporations, with the help of Greenpeace. You would think that with
the introduction of such an internationally know environmental group the
local media would have atleast covered it. But they chose to ignore it like
they have the rest of their campaign. So we would like to focus a lot on
this capaign as an IMC. We also see the IMC network as an important
networking tool for local activists. As of now we have no place to make
announcements about events taking place in our community. With the
open-publishing newswire we could do that. Since we are so isolated
geographically we would also like to have a place that activists outside of
Louisville could check out and see what\'s going on.
