I would like to ad some thoughts.
Since this summer there has been a lot of thinking and debate in the Belgian
IMC. On our general assembly we said we (belgium.indymedia.org) wanted to
work towards building local groups. We thought it would take is at least
one year to be able to build those local groups. Building real working
local imc's is not an easy thing.
Untill now there is only WVL.indymedia.org that is really functional as a
local Belgian IMC.
The belgian collective accepted the proposal made by Bart (Imc WVL and
Liege), but wants one year to be able to build those local groups.
We are working hard now to figure out how this should be done and are
trying to set up workshops, ... to be able to do this. (media-circus)
Vlaanderen is a sub regional identity as Belgium is, so I see no reason why
vlaanderen would be accepted while Belgium is working towards local IMC's
and disbanding itself in one year. (This is what the proposal asked for,
and it was accepted with a delay of one year).
If Vlaanderen is accepted it means that the proposal of WVL & Liege is
rejected by global IMC. No hard feelings, but that also means that the
belgian collective wil have to review his decision.
As for me I have been following the test website for Vlaanderen, and I do
not see one article on that website that would not be accepted by the
Belgian website. And almost all features on that testwebsite are copy's of
the Belgian website or the WVL website. (some are adapted some are 100%
copy's). I think that the whole vlaanderen thing is al lot of wasted energy
and will make impossible it to build local IMC's in Belgium.
What troubles me most is that the people from Vlaanderen do not seem to care
whether they will be accepted or a part if the global network, they already
bought www.vlaanderen-indymedia.org and server space for their website.
I would propose to not accept Vlaanderen and to start working on building
real working local belgian IMC's,.... (ther is already one
wvl.indymedia.org)
Greetings
