I hadn't heard about that proposal, but I can relate that several of us
have talked about creating an IMC for North Virginia. We put that on the
back burner for various reasons, including the argument that there were
other IMCs around the world which had higher priority.
Leaving aside my personal problems with the IMC DC, I think the IMC
network needs to come up with ways to allow the creation of more IMCs
within a big metroplitan area. There will be reasons that develop other
than personal differences and competiveness that would support more than
one IMC in a large metropolitan area. You mention one of those reasons:
reporting on local issues within that part of the city. Another reason
has to do with geography. Why couldn't there be an IMC Brooklyn or IMC
Oakland for those activists who want to do local reporting and don't
want to do long commutes into another part of town. The transportation
issue is pretty important to those of us who work and have families. It
make sit hard to participate in your local IMC if you have to spend two
hours each week commuting to a meeting.
